Robison Leaving OEA to Join SDE

Joel Robison, OEA associate executive director and chief lobbyist, has resigned to become State Supt. Janet Barresi’s chief of staff, effective December 15.

Robison was a teacher in Oklahoma City and worked for the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) prior to joining the OEA as a staff lobbyist. In 2006, he was named an associate executive director responsible for the Legislative and Political Organizing Center as well as the Association’s technology and business departments.

As chief lobbyist, Robison helped lead the OEA’s effort to improve the salary, benefits and working conditions of Oklahoma’s education employees. As an example, his work with the Oklahoma State and Education Employee Group Insurance Board on behalf of OEA employees at times kept insurance premiums from rising.

“Joel worked daily with our legislators and at the capitol – at times under some very difficult circumstances – helping us navigate Oklahoma’s ever-changing political landscape. We’re grateful for all he accomplished for public education,” said Lela Odom, OEA executive director.

“We’re happy that the State Department of Education is getting someone with a true understanding of public education, and we wish Joel the best. We’re looking forward to working with him in his new position,” she added.
