Standardized Assessment in Oklahoma: Essential Questions

The purpose of standardized assessment is to measure student growth to provide timely feedback to all stakeholders. Teachers must become full partners in the development, implementation, analysis and utilization of student assessment because teachers are professionals with a deep and unique knowledge of students, pedagogy and curriculum.

OEA convened some of Oklahoma's most outstanding teachers and ask them, "What should appropriate testing look like?" The Instructional Issues Focus Group developed these essential questions, to be applied when determining the worth of any test:
