A second chance to get it right

Gov. Stitt’s latest appointment to the State Board of Education, Melissa Crabtree, has withdrawn her name for consideration to the appointment. Following is OEA President Alicia Priest’s statement on today’s events:

“The governor has a second chance to get this right.

“This isn’t about political parties. This isn’t about falling in line. It’s about identifying qualified Oklahomans who will stand up for public school students and not be swayed by political influence.

“Education is a nonpartisan issue. Oklahomans love and care about their public schools. The people who represent them on state and local school boards should as well.

“The Oklahoma Education Association (OEA) would welcome any opportunity to discuss ideas for future State School board appointments with Governor Stitt and other education stakeholders.”
