Scout Anvar, Research/Campaign Organizer

Scout Anvar was recently named research and campaign organizer, a new position at the Oklahoma Education Association.

OEA won an NEA grant to establish the Center for Research & Campaign Organizing. Anvar’s responsibilities will include research and campaign planning on a variety of issues, including the promotion of transformational community schools, research to help locals designate American Rescue Plan (ARP) state funds, and helping back legislation to improve public education for both students and staff.

Most recently, Anvar has served as the center assistant for the OEA Legislative and Political Organizing and Communications departments. They are on track to finish a master’s in human relations with a focus on research from the University of Oklahoma. Anvar earned a bachelor’s in women’s and gender studies from OU after graduating from Santa Fe High School in Edmond.

They are certified in social behavioral human research and information privacy security from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. Before joining the OEA staff in 2019, they interned at the YWCA Shelter and Prevention Education program and conducted qualitative research as a research associate at the Title IX and Equity Research Consortium.

Anvar, who has presented independent research projects at several state and national conferences, is a member of the Youth Advisory Subcommittee of the Oklahoma Prevention Leadership Committee. They have published several pieces of literature and art, including publishing in the OU writing journal, “Brainstorm.”

“I choose to work at OEA for the same reasons that our members join,” Anvar said. “I am proud to work for an association that protects and advocates for all education professionals and stands by values that I believe in. As a current graduate student, education is one of my top priorities. OEA is truly a perfect fit for me.”
