Deborah Phelps to provide keynote address at SLA

 

Deborah Phelps, a highly sought-after motivational speaker and author, will provide the keynote address at OEA’s 2022 Summer Leadership Academy, at 9:30 a.m. June 23.

SLA will take place June 22-23 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Oklahoma City Northwest. The conference begins at 1 p.m. on the 22nd with Emerging Leaders, roundtable discussions for presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, and treasurers. There will also be breakouts for members who are not in leadership roles.

The conference continues on the 23rd with Phelps’ keynote followed by breakout sessions throughout the day.

Phelps is widely recognized as an innovative, energetic and talented educational leader and master teacher with more than four decades of teaching and administrative experience. She  has earned many honors over the course of her distinguished career, including being recognized as a Champion of Youth by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Baltimore County Public Schools Teacher of the Year Finalist, a two-time Maryland Family & Consumer Science Teacher of the Year and Brava Award recipient from SmartCEO.

A native of Western Maryland, Phelps has been recognized as one of the Most Influential Marylanders and one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record as well as Baltimore County’s “Baby Boomer of the Year.” In her speaking engagements, Phelps addresses a range of topics related to education, child development, health and life lessons.

The proud mother of three children (including Olympic swimming record holder Michael Phelps) and grandmother of six received her master’s in education management and supervision from Loyola College (MD) and her bachelor’s in education from Fairmont State College, from which she received the Outstanding Alumnae honor in 2010 and was the Commencement Speaker in 2009.
