Laura Miller, OEA’s newest staff member, brings a wide variety of teaching and counseling experience to the job. Laura recently joined OEA as a teaching and learning specialist for the western half of Oklahoma.
Her teaching career began in Hammon in 2003 as a special education para-professional. After gaining certification, she taught English literature, fifth and sixth grade, and high school language arts, newspaper and gifted and talented. Laura spent two years at Southwestern Oklahoma State University as director of counseling and assessment before returning to Hammon where she has been director of special services since 2014.
She has a bachelor’s from the University of Central Oklahoma and a master’s of education from SWOSU. She has certifications in school counseling, school psychometry, special education mild/moderate and severe/profound, early childhood, elementary ed, speech and drama/debate and English.
“I am extremely excited to begin this new chapter in my life with OEA,” Laura said of joining the association. “Providing professional development will allow me to interact and learn from the educators who are on the front lines daily and understand education in Oklahoma. Joining the Northwest Team in giving education a voice is an opportunity that I am truly looking forward to.”
Laura and her husband Kevin live in Strong City where he raises cattle on the family farm. Their son Lane is a finance and agricultural major at SWOSU.
