President Alicia Priest Applauds Governor's Special Session Agenda
Gov. Mary Fallin today called for a special session, including a teacher pay raise and finding a long-term solution to the state’s continuing budget shortfalls along with fixing the budget hole left by the Supreme Court’s defeat of the cigarette tax.
The governor sets the agenda when calling a special session, and only those issues can be addressed during the special session.
“We applaud Gov. Fallin’s leadership to make this special session about more than just filling a funding hole,” said OEA President Alicia Priest. “Instead of taking the easy way out by addressing a specific funding issue, she stepped up. Gov. Fallin took a bold step and demanded the legislature tackle the big picture.
“Our teachers must have a significant pay increase and our schools must have stable, long-term funding. Addressing our ability to fund essential state services is long overdue.”
