The OEA Trauma Cadre initiative was made possible by a grant from the NEA Great Public Schools Foundation awarded in 2021. The goal of the cadre is to provide free strategies-rich, trauma-informed presentations to Oklahoma educators.
While many Oklahoma educators have attended professional development on the theory of trauma exposure and how it impacts children, OEA’s cadre presentations focus on in-the moment and curricular strategies. Emerging scientific findings and theory are also discussed but are linked to practical strategies.
Community schools are finding success across the country, including in Union Public Schools in Tulsa. OEA is working with legislators to make the model accessible to more districts across the statet.
OEA has joined with COBA – the Coalition of Oklahoma Breastfeeding Advocates – to share resources about SB121, which requires schools to make accomodations for breastfeeding employees.
When SB 683 was signed, it gave education support professionals the ability to join the Teachers’ Retirement System. Current employees have until July 31, 2021, to make a decision or opt in or opt out. Find an overview of the new law and a FAQ inside.
