Civication

Civics? Education? Let’s do both!

Civication is an exciting opportunity for OEA members to connect with state lawmakers and make a difference in Oklahoma public education.

Whether it’s meeting with lawmakers in your home districts or coming to the Capitol during the legislative session, OEA has you covered!

Civication at Home

OEA is divided into zones that each elect a member to represent them on the board of directors. For “Civication at Home,” board members will set a zone meeting for members to have dinner and a conversation with their local legislators. Your legislative and political organizer (LPO) will schedule the meeting with legislators or, if legislators are unable to attend, LPO staff will host a training for members. Meals for members will be covered by the OEA.

Civication at the Capitol

Civication at the Capitol” will occur every Tuesday from the end of February through April. Members will register and have the option to stay overnight in a double occupancy hotel room. OEA will host a dinner on Monday night and host a legislative briefing and breakfast Tuesday morning. Money for gas, substitute pay, double occupancy hotel room, dinner Monday, and breakfast Tuesday will be covered by the OEA. You will have an option to choose a preferred roommate, an assigned roommate, or pay half the cost of the room to stay by yourself.
